Conditional Gasless: benefits and use-cases

After much anticipation, we’re happy to announce that conditional gasless is officially available to all dApps via our SDK. With conditional gasless, builders are now able to specify which users are eligible for gasless transactions and which ones are not.

There are currently two conditions available to developers within the SDK: NFT and Token Whitelisting, as shown below within the dashboard.

Why Set Conditions?

Conditions allow developers to decide which users they’re willing to sponsor gas fees for within their dApp. While reasons for doing so may vary, the premise is simple, to eliminate gas fees for top users. The end-result is comparable to a targeted ad campaign, where developers are willing to pay a higher acquisition cost (in this case gas fees) for users with a higher LTV as specified by the whitelist conditions.

For example: a dApp running an NFT drop may choose to offer gasless transactions for minters from a previous drop, to reward them as returning users (more on this use-case below).

Rewarding said users with gasless transactions via our SDK also means developers will pay lower gas fees than the market equivalent rate. Year to date, dApps using Gasless have already saved over $267,000 on gas fees, compared to ether and polyscan.

Who is conditional gasless for?

In short, conditional gasless is for all dApp builders. With that in mind, let’s highlight a few use-cases for whitelist conditions could be implemented to increase user-retention while offering reduced fees for developers.

Conditional Use-Cases

NFT Drops

With the increasing popularity of drops, it goes without saying that offering a gasless minting experience is a powerful way to increase mint volume among both new and current users.

To illustrate, let’s consider the massive 100 Thieves NFT drop that integrated Gasless in February of this year. 100 Thieves (“Hundred Thieves”) is a premium lifestyle brand and gaming organization.

We were approached by the iconic 100 Thieves team in January of 2022 to determine whether we could support an NFT drop for their Championship Chain, as a sign of appreciation to their community.

The 100 Thieves drop is our largest to date with some truly staggering numbers

750,000 gas-free NFT’s minted
611,706 (85%) first time minters

Conditional Impact

Should 100 Thieves decide to do another NFT drop, they could now choose to offer gasless minting to the 750,000 minters who participated in their championship chain drop. Doing so would reward and thus incentivize the immense number of previous minters to participate in the new drop sans gas, while allowing the 100 Thieves team to pay lower fees.

Talk about user retention.

Governance & Staking

Similarly, staking platforms, such as dydx could utilize token whitelisting to offer gasless transactions for specific contributors if they hold the minimum amount of a token as specified in their Biconomy dashboard.

Conditional impact

Utilizing token whitelisting would encourage eligible contributors to stake in a specific liquidity pool without paying costly gas fees. The same could be applied to all forms of staking or governance, creating an active reward system where contributors are rewarded with zero fees while still earning in the pool itself. Zero gas for them and lower fees for the platform!

Gaming

The impact of NFT whitelisting within gaming could rival that of even the largest NFT drops, thanks to having a daily active user-base as most dApps do.

ZED Run for example, has been utilizing both Gasless and Hyphen at scale since 2020 with in-dapp transfers and gas-free transactions supported for all users.

Gasless impact on ZED Run to date:

Over 8.5 Million Gasless transactions
Over $212,000 in gas savings for ZED Run users

Conditional Impact

Thanks to NFT whitelisting, gaming dApps such as ZED can now offer gas-free transactions to specific NFT holders, which in the case of ZED are the horses themselves. In doing so, they could offer gasless transactions to their top players and/or breeders respectively.

Similarly, they could also opt to offer gasless transactions on race fees to new gamers instead of top players, in an effort to increase new user retention. This illustrates the power of setting conditions, whether it’s for increasing stickiness of top users or new ones alike. The choice is yours with conditional gasless.

Conclusion

Conditional Gasless marks an imperative milestone in our continued development of the most powerful SDK on the market for supercharging the dApp user-experience. As we move into Q3 we’ll be looking at additional conditions and use-cases which we can scale with whitelisting options.
